Meredith Matsen, Energetic Spirals

Energetic Spirals is a practice as research-based investigation into the energetic centers of the body. The work explores the embodiment of the seven Hindu chakras including: Muladhara(root), Swadhisthana(self-abode), Manipura(city of gems), Anahata (unstruck sound), Vishuddhi(very pure), Ajna(command), and Sahasrara(thousand petalled lotus). These conceptual wisdoms transform the body/mind relationship and shift the experiential nature of being in the now.Within the film, the spectator is invited into an improvisational process from Muladhara (root) chakra to Sahasrara (thousand petalled lotus) chakra. At its core, Energetic Spirals is about the interaction between human beings and their environment. It is a process of self-realization and reflection that could possibly take lifetimes to understand fully. Here is where the journey beings. This experience is directly linked to how we can become more radically or deeply involved in the here and now through our bodies, minds, and souls.

Fangxuan Liu, RELATION

I created a dance work with my partner Anna on the relationship between people in society. Our work reflects the relationship between people in today's society. It fits in with the theme HERE and NOW. At the beginning of life, everyone is constantly exploring, watching, listening and feeling everything. The relationship and connection between people are relatively close and wonderful in society. We used chairs and long scarves as props in our work. In some cases they exist as individuals and more often as a link between people. But in some cases scarves also have the meaning of winding, binding and covering, just as people in society have to have contact with another person because of some factors that may hide their true self or even if they do not want to.

The only space available for listening is here, the only moment when change is possible is now. The here and now as the actualization of events, as the materialization of time and physicality, is an opening where each and every question should be asked. With this premise in body I felt the gut necessity to question the meaning of togetherness in face of the current social, political, economic and affective states. Being together-with as a practice of research involves an acute sense of affective listening and thus I conceive the potency of the here and now as an opening where to become aware of each other with the fullness of our presence. One basic premise that opens the space to explore this in practice is collaboration, where the task of listening and deepening conversations becomes crucial.
